Be Vewy, Vewy Quiet…

The woman in my life is asleep beside me. She’s had a long day. First working all Saturday until late, then a bus journey of three hours. To see me. I feel privileged; spoiled even.

It’s been a very full day. I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to write much. Later I hope to fill you in on the further travails of the Very Sick Computer. Also, I have an announcement to make: I know which is the best phone.

Hint: It probably isn’t what you think is the best phone. But I hope to write a guide to help you choose the right one for your needs and desires.

Good night

    1. Oh yeah, that’s interesting. What are people’s favourite phones?

I vaguely think I seem to recollect talking about this in Prague one time. Was it the Nokia 5110 you liked? Truly a great phone, made out of pure unbreakium. But I am more interested in people’s favourites of the choices on offer. I may call it “OK, apart from the iPhone 4…”

      1. Yes, it was the good old 5110.

My main objection to smartphones in general is that they’re an example of Bloom’s Law of Technology – all cutting-edge portable electronic devices need a battery that won’t be invented for another two years. If you’re me, smartphones are equipped with so many fascinating ways of wasting time that they end up flashing the “20% of battery remaining, oh god I’m dying, someone get word to my mother that I love her” message about halfway through the afternoon which is a pain if you actually need to contact people.

  1. I have a corollary to your law though. Or should it be a codicil? Amendment. For every one device you carry, bring three batteries.

(Two is not the correct number, as one of them will always be flat)

This is a big black mark for me against Apple, and any company that thinks it’s a great idea to attach their batteries with screws. They’re just not making allowance for reality.
